Results Posted for Outdoor Championships

Preliminary results are now posted for the USATF Mid-Atlantic 2014 Outdoor Open/Masters Track & Field Championships, which were conducted June 8 at Widener University. The results are preliminary pending verification of a few entries. About 250 athletes competed in the championships. Team winners were declared this year for the first time. Philadelphia Masters won both the masters men and masters women competitions, and ISAA won both the open competitions.

Free Race Walk Clinic in June

A free instruction/demonstration Race Walk clinic will be held Sunday, June 8, from 12-12:45 p.m. during the USATF Mid-Atlantic Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Widener University in Chester, Pa. The clinic is designed for coaches, athletes and future athletes. The instructors will be Team USA coach Ed Richardson, Team USA member Solomiya Login and high school All-American Pamela Alva. Still Alive After Five

The 2014 Advanced Sports Chiropractic Runners' Pentathlon, presented by the Greater Philadelphia Track Club, will take place Sunday morning, Aug. 10, at Germantown Academy's Carey Stadium in Fort Washington, Pa. Individual runners and three-person teams from around the country will compete in a mix of sprint and distance events to determine the best all-around track runners and teams. All Ages Welcome at Germantown Academy Summer Series

For the third year in a row, Germantown Academy will conduct All-Comers Track & Field Meets on Tuesday evenings June 24, July 1 and July 8 at picturesque Carey Stadium and Athletic Complex in Fort Washington, Pa. During the first two years, over 900 athletes of all ages participated in the meet series, which made for excellent competition in nearly every heat or flight and great camaraderie across the ages. Nick Berra Sets World Record in 800 Meters

Nick Berra set a world 800-meter record for men 45 and older. He also anchored a relay team that set another record in the 4x800 relay.

Whiting and Wilson Take National Indoor Titles

A USA Indoor Championship meet record went down in February as Olympian Ryan Whiting, a Mid-Atlantic member from Port Matilda, Pa., etched his name in the record books at the Albuquerque Convention Center. Whiting was second until his fifth throw of the meet, tossing a mark of 22.23 meters to become the fifth-best indoor performer in the world all-time and third in the U.S. all-time. Whiting broke USA Track & Field Hall of Famer John Godina’s previous mark of 21.83 meters, set in 2005.

Ajee’ Wilson, a Mid-Atlantic member from Neptune, N.J., took home her second straight national championship in the women’s 800 meters. She outkicked Chanelle Price to take the title in 2:00.43, a new indoor personal best. (Posted March 4, 2014)

Technical Course Offered for Track and Field Coaches

A Track and Field Technical Certification Course for coaches will be offered at West Chester University on Oct. 18-19. The 15-hour course costs $135 for registration at least 10 days prior and $155 for late or on-site registration. The chief instructor will be Boo Schexnayder, former LSU and Olympic coach and veteran track and field clinician. Certification by the U.S. Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association is granted for successful completion of the course and evaluation. The curriculum includes workout planning, administration of training, techniques, and teaching techniques for all commonly contested track and field events. Read more.
