National Officials Chair To Speak at Annual Meeting

Posted Feb. 6: The Mid-Atlantic Officials Committee will hold its Annual Meeting on March 17 at 1 p.m. at the Fort Washington Holiday Inn. All officials or those interested in becoming officials can attend. Certification Chair Earl Edwards will host the meeting, which will include the review of rule changes, the certification process, and other business before the committee. Two clinic sessions are scheduled. First, the national officials chair, Len Krsak, will make a PowerPoint presentation on the National Officials Committee. Before becoming the committee chair, he was the head of discus and numerous U.S. Championships. The second presenter will be his wife, Karen Krsak, who is national chair of the Associations Committee and oftentimes head clerk at the U.S. National Championships. She will present a session on clerking. This is shaping up to be one of our best meetings ever, so please pass the word around!

Remember To Recertify for New Olympiad

Posted Feb. 6: Remember, officials must both recertify and have a 2013 USATF membership by March 31 or they will be considered suspended as an official. Recertification is good until the next Olympics in 2016, but each year all officials must have a current membership by March 31 or again be considered suspended, not eligible for the additional insurance or eligible for selection to national championships. NCAA and NFHS Rule Books Available

Posted Feb. 6: The 2013-2014 NCAA Rule Book and 2013 NFHS Rule Book are now available as PDF's on the USATF Rules page. As a reminder, the new USATF rule book will be available sometime soon after the rule changes adopted at the Annual Meeting are incorporated.

A Message From the New Officials Chair

Hello to all,

As the new chair of the Mid-Atlantic Association Officials Committee, it is my duty but most of all my pleasure to announce our newly elected officers of the Officials Committee.

To the office of secretary will be duly elected Frank Palombaro. While Frank is a mainstay from years of due diligent work on the committee, he has now taken on the task as committee secretary. Good luck to Frank in his service!

New to the office of vice chair is duly elected Maria Baptiste. While new to the committee and office (but not new to track and field), Maria brings a new perspective and energy to the position.

To the office of chair is duly elected Earl Edwards. This will be my second term as a committee member. My former office on the committee was vice chair. As chair, it will be my task to uphold the wonderful example that I've received from the former chair, my friend and mentor Ken Yerger.

The committee will start off running with the Penn Relays officials clinic, continuing with recertification of officials for the new Olympiad and USATF membership renewal. Those items will be the preeminent tasks on the Officials Committee's agenda.

Earl Edwards

Mid-Atlantic Officials Shirts Available

The Mid-Atlantic Officials Committee announces that the officials shirt debuted at their annual meeting is now available for purchase. Thanks to the efforts of the committee’s vice chair, Earl Edwards, the shirts are reasonably priced and well embroidered. The shirts are not required but will give you something distinctive to wear when a meet does not require the national shirt or meet-specific clothing. Order form.
